An Analysis of Public Awareness and Behavior in Protecting Personal Data
Abstract
The rise of cyber threats necessitates strengthening security from the user's end. This study aims to analyze the influence of awareness and the understanding of cyber phenomena on the adoption of security measures by individuals. Using a survey method with a questionnaire distributed to 120 respondents from diverse backgrounds, the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The analysis results show that the variables Awareness (β = 0.407, p < 0.01) and Phenomena (β = 0.350, p < 0.05) have a positive and statistically significant influence on Security. Collectively, these two variables can explain 48.6% of the variance in the adoption of security measures (R² = 0.486). This finding confirms that awareness is the most dominant predictor in encouraging secure online behavior. The results of this study recommend strengthening educational programs and awareness campaigns as a primary strategy to improve the public's cybersecurity posture.
